Anoka County 4-H Receives Community Leadership Award

Anoka County 4-H recently received a 2024 Community Leadership Award from the Association of Minnesota Counties for their “Green Superheroes of Science” initiative, and several 4-H members attended the meeting to be recognized by the board. The program engages teen leaders to teach elementary-aged children science concepts that inspire and engage them as change makers to help solve the urgent environmental issue of plastic pollution in our environment. Bridge Work to Be Conducted at Seelye Brook

The board approved two separate resolutions related to planned bridge work over Seelye Brook in Oak Grove and St. Francis. The first resolution authorized the acquisition of right-of-way for the replacement of the bridge on Rum River Boulevard Northwest. Traffic Control System Planned at Lexington, 122nd Avenues

The board approved entering into a joint powers agreement with the City of Blaine for intersection improvements at Lexington and 122nd avenues in Blaine. The plans include construction of a traffic control signal system, updated pedestrian accommodations, and an improved intersection level of service for current and future traffic demands. Roundabout to be Constructed at Hodgson Rd., County Rd. J

Anoka County, in partnership with Ramsey County and the cities of Shoreview and Lino Lakes, have developed plans to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Hodgson Road and County Road J/Ash Street. The board approved a contract amendment to facilitate the continuance of this work. Construction is underway and is expected to be complete by September 2024. Grant Agreement Approved for Analysis of Overdose Data

The board approved an agreement with the Minnesota Department of Health for grant funding that will assist in funding toxicology testing on potential overdose-related deaths. For more information on this item, click HERE. 

Lower Coon Creek Restoration Work to Commence

The board approved a joint powers agreement with the Coon Creek Watershed District to improve the water quality along the lower Coon Creek corridor within Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park. This project will involve stabilizing eroding streambanks and stormwater outfalls and creating channel habitat for native species. Construction is anticipated to begin winter of 2024 and wrap up summer of 2025. For more information on this item, click HERE. 

New Long-Range Plan Developed for Rice Creek West Regional Trail Corridor 

Over the last few years, the Anoka County Parks Department has been working on the long-range plan for the Rice Creek West Regional Trail Corridor. In November 2022, the City of Fridley terminated the previous 40-year Joint Powers Agreement. Since then, both entities have been in the process of negotiating a reasonable solution. Agreement has been made and the long-range plan provides for development and operations and maintenance for the trail corridor going forward. The board adopted a resolution of support of the plan. Annual Action Plan Approved for Home Investment Partnerships

The board adopted a resolution approving the county’s annual action plan for the Community Development Block Grant and Home Investment Partnerships Program and authorized submission of a grant request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This funding is used to create and maintain decent affordable housing units. For more information on this item, click HERE.
